Thanks to all the students, scientists and teachers that have taken part in the Helium Zone!
It has been a fab 4 weeks. We hope youโve enjoyed it – and we hope youโve learnt something about what itโs like being a scientist.
There have been some excellent questions asked by students.
Here are some of my favourites – click to read the answers!
- what is your favourite science themed movie
- How does climate change impact wildfires?
- Is there anything that has gone wrong that you have managed to turn into something funny?ย
Throughout the Zone students have been voting for their favourite scientist.
That scientist will win ยฃ500 to spend on more science engagement.
We are pleased to announce that the winner isโฆ
๐ Victoria Fawcettย ๐ฅ
๐ Congratulations! ๐ฅณ
Though the Zone has come to an end, you can view it at any time, to look back at the scientistsโ profiles, and see the answers they gave.
We hope youโll carry on being curious – and keep asking questions!
Thanks so much for taking part.

๐๐๐ So well deserved! Congrats Vicky and I hope the outreach in the North goes well!
Thank you Daisy! Was nice to meet you over the last few weeks, all the best for the future! ๐
Thank you so much to everyone that voted for me! ๐
I’m looking forward to putting the money towards an astronomy outreach program we are organizing in the North East of England. This involves creating a permanent astronomy exhibition at a museum in Newcastle, running an astronomy program for schools, and organizing planetarium shows!
Congrats Victoria, this sounds like money well spent in a region that could benefit from more of this sort of thing. I’ll try to check out some Newcastle museums next time I’m in the area. Best of luck, this has been fun!
