Luke Humphrey answered on 10 Mar 2022:
Princess Mononoke, by Hayao Miyazaki.
The movie tells the story of a forest locked in conflict between the industrial Iron Town and the native forest spirits. It follows an outsider, who was cursed by a demon that emerged from the forest due to the actions of Iron Town. My favourite thing about it is that there are no villains. Everyone does what they believe is right, but conflict emerges anyway. This is very true for real life.
The writer, Miyazaki, has many other great films that deal with environmentalism and war, and the humanity of his characters is inspiring where many other movies rely on having one side be the heroes of the story, and the other the villains.
Note: this is “science-themed” because science, industry, and our influence on the environment are intimately linked themes.
