About Me:
I moved to Oxford 3 years ago. I do quite a bit of running and cycling in my spare time so I can enjoy the handmade cake and pasties I usually make!

I came to the UK roughly 9 years ago, having moved away my home country Chile (I speak spanish!). I am quite an active and sociable person, currently involved with 2/3 different sports (run, cycling, dancing). I organise social activities together with the latin american community in Oxford. I am trying to learn how to play the guitar and trying to finally start reading all the books I have sitting in my room.

I design the ventilation, heating/cooling, hot/cold water and drainage distribution system of buildings. I pay close attention to the forms of Energy required to power all these systems and how much this affects the environment. Hopefully to influence the environmental impact of the buildings of the future and hence fight the climate change.

My Typical Day:
I wake up, go for a run and then have breakfast (usually granola!). I then go to work or a building site to start with my day, attending meetings or supervising a build progress. After work I get back home to either cook or spend some time with one of my hobbies.

I either always work from my home, office or a building site. It is pretty similar for me to work from the office or from my home with the only difference being the free coffee provided at work, which is a pretty good incentive to go in! However, when I am on a building site I have to fully prepare beforehand with what I have to do (as usually I cant access emails) and also wear a full Personal Protective Equipment or PPE (usually a hard-hat, high vis, boots).
Regardless of where I am, my job correlates accordingly. When in the office I design buildings and their systems using computer software whereas when I am on a building site I inspect and tell the construction workers to correct the building as it progresses.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would aim to fund activities with the local STEM hubs/schools around the oxford area to increase the awareness on the importance of Engineers in the construction field when it comes to our cities of the future.
