I went to the University of Sheffield and studied Mechanical Engineering because I really enjoyed Maths, Physics and Design at school. Now I get to combine all of them in my job! I went to school near Bradford, West Yorkshire.
I am part of the Nucleargraduates scheme, where we get the opportunity to work for a variety of companies in the Nuclear industry. Currently, I work for Rolls-Royce in Derby where I am a manufacturing engineer.
In my spare time I like to run and did the Great North Run in September. I also watch a lot of football and support Leeds United.

My work changes from day to day depending on what projects I’m working on. In manufacturing it’s all about making things. I do lots of different things that all are part of making engines for submarines.
Sometimes I go into the factory to help operators with manufacturing equipment and to look at the parts being made. Other times, I am working at a computer writing instructions and other documents to help with the manufacturing process. I also write reports about the different machines and what they do.
I also get to learn about other areas around the company through my graduate training. I get to learn about business, money, projects, government and much more.

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 6:30 am and get ready to go to work. I drive into the office and get there before morning meetings. I then eat breakfast at my desk while writing and answering emails. Usually my day will be a mix of working on the computer and going into the factory. I eat lunch around 12pm with other engineers and graduates. The afternoon is mostly computer work and meetings. I try to leave by 5 pm to go home for tea.

I wake up at 6:30 am and get ready to go to work. I try and make my lunch the night before, so I grab food and make a coffee to take into the office. I drive into the office or get a lift with a housemate who works at the same site.
In the morning we have meetings with everyone in the team. I then eat breakfast at my desk while writing and answering emails. Usually my day will be a mix of working on the computer and going into the factory. On the computer I will be writing reports, instructions or looking at drawings. In the factory I support the operators with using machines to make the parts. I use things like maths and science everyday to help me solve problems and find out new things.
I eat lunch around 12pm with other engineers and graduates. The other graduates are working on lots of different things, so it is interesting to find out what they are working on. The afternoon is mostly computer work and meetings. I also get to talk to graduates working in different companies in the nuclear industry. I try to leave by 5 pm to go home for tea.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would spend the money on an event to get people interested in STEM at my old school in Bradford. The event would aim to show people the variety of careers there are in STEM and what they can do with Maths and Science.
