About Me:
I am a mechanical engineering researcher working on computational materials science. I use powerful computers to calculate the properties of mechanical components that are used for cars, airplanes and energy production. I love cycling.

I was very interested in physics when I was in school. The idea of predicting the behaviour of the physical world using mathematics has always fascinated me. In University, I have specialized in the study of materials because they are extremely important for the advance of technology.

In my research, I develop computer programs that can simulate the mechanical behaviour of different materials for different load conditions, temperature and other degradation mechanisms. I compare my computational results with experiments to develop theories that can explain microscopic mechanisms taking place in metals.
-
My Typical Day:
I spend part of my days doing computer programming, reading and writing articles, teaching to the students. I drink a lot of coffee.

I develop computer programs that are used by collaborators and myself. I read the very last articles published in my field, so that I can be up to date with research done worldwide. I prepare lessons for the University students and grade their exams.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I will build a portable microscope which is specific to observe metallic materials so that I can show to school pupils how a metal looks like at the microscopic scale.
