I am originally from the North East of England but have moved over to the North West (Lake District) for my job. I have always loved science, and so I went to Durham University to study a Masters Degree in Chemistry. I have danced ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics since the age of 3 and still try and do it as often as I can. I love all things Disney- the films, the songs and of course visiting the parks!! I also do a lot of baking and like to experiment with different cakes, cookies and tarts; I also LOVE eating the cake too!!

I am a chemist on the nucleargradutes scheme, sponsored by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. I am currently working wihtin the Technology and Innovation team that focusses on research and development into the decommissioning (taking apart) of nuclear power stations that are at the ends of their lives. In July I get to move onto a different company where I will undertake a new role as part of the graduate scheme- also through the scheme I get to do lots of training courses and STEM engagement.

My Typical Day:
I get up in the morning and have a coffee with my breakfast. I start work at 8:30 where I attend lots of meetings and read/write reports. I have my lunch break, where I enjoy going on a quick walk, and then I get back to work assessing lots of data on different research and development tasks. I finish work at 4:30 and head home to enjoy the evening.

On a typical day I work from 8:30-4:30 with a mix of working in the office and from home. I generally attend lots of meetings with people from my team and other teams within the company to gain information relating to any of the projects that I am working on. In terms of the work I do, one job involves receiving lots of case studies of research and development tasks taking place currently within the nuclear industry and choosing the ‘right’ ones. I then summarise these in the style of a report to be published to allow the public to find out what is happening within the company and the wider industry. Other projects involve scoring PhD applications and reviewing the current framework in place for my team.
