I absolutely love cats.π»
When I was younger I wanted to be a vet but I realised very quickly that I couldn’t be one because it makes me too sad to see animals in pain.π₯
I spend a lot of my time baking or being creative.ππ§΅π¨π§π€π¬β

I studied Biomedical Science at University. And I then got a job as a Biomedical Scientist at the Royal Derby Hospital, and I did some exams there which means I became a fully qualified Biomedical Scientist.
I used to work in Blood Bank, so If anyone came into the hospital and was needing blood I would be the person to make sure it was the right match for them. It’s very important to get the right blood to the right person, because if you give someone blood that doesn’t match their own, they can get very poorly.
When I was working as a scientist I also started an Instagram page and a blog. I like to make science easy for people to understand.
From this, I was spotted by lots of companies who all wanted me to work for them, so I am now a Scientific Content Producer for a big international Journal! (Its my dream job!)
You can find more about me here: https://www.technologynetworks.com/tn/editor/lucy-lawrence
But I make videos, podcasts, write articles, speak to scientists and get paid for it,its brilliant.
I create a lot of video series for the company, and I’ve done video series (interviewing scientists) for genetics, coronavirus. Its VERY exciting!!

My Typical Day:
I wake up and have breakfast, feed my cat and let her outside.
I then get to work at 830, and am very lucky as I get to work from home.
I interview scientists for podcasts, videos or the magazine which I write, and I get an hour for lunch.
In the afternoons IΒ get to speak with lots of exciting people, at the moment I’m speaking with scientists from NASA!
And in the evenings I’ll watch some netflix, and go for dinner with my friends π₯°

My days can be really varied, some days I’ll be writing for the magazine that I produce. Sometimes I’ll be interviewing scientists from around the world over zoom.
Some days I’ll be trying to speak with BIG people, like astronauts from NASA and I’ve even spoken with Bill Gates team!
Other days I’ll be making science videos. Its really varied and I love it a lot!
More recently I’ve been interviewing scientists in America and London (University College London) who are researching dangerous drugsΒ and how very clever scientistss can change the drugs carefully to make them help people who are really poorly with brain disorders. (The scientists are VERY experienced and VERY clever, and they have had to have YEARS and YEARS of training to do this)

What I'd do with the prize money:
With the Β£500 prize money I want to make science much more fun and accessible by making a podcast that speaks to all sorts of scientists across the world. The podcast would be especially for people under 18 in UK Schools and you’ll all be able to ask questions to HUGE scientists!Β π
(I also want school children to experience podcast production, so I’d love for children from schools across the UK to host the podcast with me via zoom).
